Coconut the puppy

I'm a Fashionista!

My name is Coconut and I am a girl puppy. My Mommy is Miss Linda who does the Magnificent Monday Storytime at Malaga Cove Library every Monday at 10:30 a.m. I love children, I am friendly and I do not bite. After Storytime is over my Mommy and I go around and give hugs and kisses to all the cute children. The cute children also give me hugs and kisses too. Mrs. Henry, the Young Readers Manager, calls me a “Fashionista” because my Mommy, Miss Linda, loves dressing me in new outfits. My Mommy also created Coconut’s Crafty Concoctions because we do a craft project after our Storytime. It is so much fun to see all the children and their caregivers making their craft projects. Some of them even thank me too! They say, “Thank you Coconut.”

My favorite food: chicken doggie treats

My favorite drink: fresh water

My favorite colors: pink and blue

My favorite seasons: Fall and Winter

My best friends forever (BFF’s): the birds chirping in the trees

My favorite book: Love you foreverby Robert N. Munsch

My hobbies: walking, running, playing, listening to music, making crafts, and wagging my tail!

Well, woof woof, and bark bark for now!

Curly the sheep

Library storytimes are the best invention ever!

Curly, the sheep feels honored to be a part of the storytime cast at the Palos Verdes Library District. Curly was born and raised on Old MacDonald’s farm but since the fall of 2005 has made the Palos Verdes Library his home. As an avid book reader and listener of stories, Curly thinks that library storytimes are the best invention ever. He is excited to be able to share his love of books and stories with everyone each week at his very own storytime. Curly also enjoys music and one can sometimes catch him humming his favorite tune, “Old MacDonald Had a Farm”.

Come join Curly for fun stories and songs at “Curly’s Tuesday Storytime” held every Tuesday morning at 10:15am and 11:00am at the Peninsula Center Library. Curly looks forward to seeing you there!

Lucky Ducky

Join me for a "quacky" storytime!

Lucky Ducky is Miss Marisa’s new special friend at Pillow Tales every Wednesday night at 7pm at Peninsula Center Library. They have been conducting evening storytimes together since Spring 2008. Lucky is a big and white fluffy ducky who is always delighted to meet and greet all the wonderful girls and boys who show up in their pajamas (or not!) for a “quacky” storytime every Wednesday night. Lucky hopes you will come to meet her very soon.

Barney Bear

Barney is a bear of many interests!

Barney Bear is the founding member of the All-star Storytime Players. Since his debut in Palos Verdes in Sept. 2000, he has appeared in over 1000 storytimes! Barney is well known for his award-winning portrayals of Papa Bear in The Three Bears and Sneezing Bear in the classic The Mitten. Before taking on his current role at the Peninsula Center Library, Barney was the star of the one-bear show, Bearing It All, which enjoyed a seven year run at the Uptown Library in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He loves books and reading and his favorite book is Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Busby Mo Willems.

Barney is a bear of many interests. He is a trained gymnast and can execute an Iron-Lotus Panchencko without a net. Barney also is an escape artist, songwriter, and is hoping to get his very own celebrity cooking show on the Food Network. Be sure to catch Barney on Wednesdays 10:15 or 11:00 at the Peninsula Center Library.

Lenny Lion

puppet-portraits-0081

Lenny is a keen reader and book lover!

Although he is still a cub, Lenny Lion has been entertaining children for years – originally under the circus tent and now at PVLD’s Miraleste library. Like our current president, his father came from Kenya and his mother from the United States. The couple met while working as circus performers, married, and decided to raise a family. As soon as he could walk, Lenny joined his parents’ act and began to amaze audiences with his acrobatic skills. From an early age, he has also been a keen reader and book lover. While on the road with the circus, Lenny frequently took time out to visit local libraries. Last year, at the urging of Young Readers librarian Michael Barb, this young lion decided to settle down and devote his talents to storytelling. See Lenny Lion in action every Wednesday, at 11:30 a.m., at the Miraleste branch!

Tracy Turtle

puppet-portraits-017

I'm a shy, green turtle who loves kids!

Tracy Turtle is Miss Marisa’s special friend at Thwacky Thursday storytimes at 10:15am and 11am at Peninsula Center Library. They have been conducting Thwacky storytimes together for almost two years. Tracy is a shy, green turtle. The boys and girls who visit her at Thwacky Thursdays help her come out of her shell. Tracy looks forward to meeting you.

Jimmy the Tortoise

Jimmy is a tortoise who LOVES to shimmy!

Jimmy is a tortoise who LOVES to shimmy!  He’s usually a shy scaredy-cat until someone plays one of his favorite songs like “Shake Your Sillies Out”, and then he practically shimmies out of his shell.  Jimmy’s first job was a zoo keeper for the elephants but he was so small they always tried to step on him.  He was so scared when he would go to work everyday that now he’s scared of just about everything.  As a retired turtle at the ripe old age of 100, he enjoys the comfort of the PVLD library where no one tries to step on him and he gets to do his favorite things – dance, sing songs, and listen to stories when all the other All-Stars are taking a well-deserved break.  Although Jimmy is scared of almost everything, when his best friend, Miss Lessa, reads stories like Where Are You Going Little Mouse by Robert Kraus, he feels better and doesn’t mind coming out of his shell to give everyone hugs and kisses.
