After four days of intensive research and writing, a group of 16 local elementary school students has published the Summer 2010 PV Kids News

The 20-page newsletter features fashion, book and movie reviews as well as interviews with several local notables such as Dr. Kiersten Darrow of the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, Gail Phinney of the PV Art Center, Adrienne Bosler of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, and Pen High football coach Kevin Moen.

The reporters, who included 2nd through 5th graders, produced the newsletter as part of a news writing mini-camp held at the Peninsula Center library.  Mentoring the aspiring journalists were 11 members of PressFriends, a community service group of middle school and high school students.

“Our mission,” said PressFriends President Luke Southwell, an incoming Peninsula High ninth-grader, “is to make writing fun for kids while creating friendships among children from diverse backgrounds.”
